Sri Lakshmi Narayan Temple

The Sri Lakshmi Narayana temple is the oldest temple in Thennangur.

Until 1996, it was known as the Shiva Vishnu temple, since the idols of Shiva and Vishnu were inside the GarbaGriha (sanctum sanctorum). When Swami Haridhos Giri (Guruji) visited Thennangur in 1985, the temple was in a dilapidated state. He rebuilt the temple and performed the Kumbhabhishekam (consecration with holy water) in 1987. Both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu were worshipped here till 1996.

Swami Haridhos Giri decided to build an Ashram in Thennangur. In 1987, the construction of the ashram including three new temples of Panduranga Rakhumayi, Meenakshi Sundareshwar and Shree Matham began in full swing. The Kumbhabhisekham of all four temples took place in 1996.

The idol of Lord Shiva which was in the Shiva Vishnu temple was now placed in the Meenakshi Sundareshwar temple.

Goddess Mahalakshmi was installed along with Lord Vishnu and the temple is now called the Lakshmi Narayana temple.

Inside the GarbaGriha of this temple, one will find a historic vigraham (idol) of Lord Narayana and his consort Goddess Lakshmi. Lord Hayagrivar, Gnana Anjaneya and Lord Panduranga are also worshipped in the temple. Lord Garudalwar is seen worshipping Lord Narayana and Goddess Lakshmi.

On Fridays, people offer Panagam (a juice made out of jaggery and dried ginger) as an offering for getting cured of all their sufferings.

For those aspiring success in education and acquiring knowledge, Sri Hayagrivar’s blessings are sought.

The devotees can touch the feet of the Lord Panduranga idol and do charansparsha.

Devotees offer butter and vadai- malai to Lord Hanuman who is known as Gnana Anjaneya here.

Once a year Pavithrotsavam is performed on all the shrines in the ashram complex.

Sita Kalyanam is celebrated in a grand manner on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami. The Narasimha, Hayagriva and Gnana Anjaneya Jayanti are celebrated annually with joyous participation of the people.
